Today I did something that I never thought I would do before in my life – I went shopping for women’s shoes. Now don’t get me wrong or think any weird thoughts. I didn’t go shopping for women’s shoes for myself. I actually went with my girlfriend who needed a new pair of high heels, or “pumps” as they are more fashionably called. I always wondered why women had a strong desire for shoes.
I have seen on TV shows and movies where women go nuts over the latest styles and paid ridiculous amounts of money to own the best brands from the most famous fashion houses. Then I thought to myself that this desire is not must different from a man’s desire or interest with cars or electronics. As a college student, during those overcast cold fall nights, my friends and I would just talk about cars while drinking beer or smoking on the sidewalk.
Later on when we made some money and were lucky enough to have our own cars, we would modify them to look and sound like the professionally modified cars we saw in the car tuner magazines. Hundreds and thousands of dollars spent on modifying cars. Hundreds and thousands spent on women’s shoes. Make your choice. At the end of our day, my girlfriend finally decided to buy a pair of high quality Pour La Victoire Women’s Aria Slingback Platform Pump. However, while we were shopping in the department store, my girlfriend gave me some pretty interesting information regarding women’s shoes, especially that of pumps.
I will write about a few of them here. First, you get what you pay for. I have a hard time spending lots of money on something like shoes when I can get them on sale online or at the store. However, I learned that for women’s shoes, the quality of the shoe is directly related on to the price. For example, a more expansive shoe will be made from better quality materials and be stitched together with tougher threads and be made by hand instead of by industrial machines that use adhesives that may not last long, especially in wet and cold weather.
Materials such as leather and suede are much better quality than plastics and will last a lot longer. Secondly, the size of the heel matters a great deal. One would think that the higher the heel it, the more uncomfortable it is on the foot, and in some cases, on the back since the heel basically is allowing the wearer to walk around on their tippy toes all day. I was surprised to know that on the 5” heel on my girl friend’s Pour La Victoire Women’s Aria Slingback Platform Pump, the comfort level was just about the same as a lower height heel.
The reason for this is that the sole of the shoe is flush and made from high quality material discuss in the first factor above. I guess you really can’t judge a shoe by its heel size. Lastly, I learned that the “lines” of the shoe determines its sex appeal. Just like on the lines of an exotic car like a Ferrari or Lamborghini, the design of the shoe will make not only the shoe, but the wearer of the shoe that much more appealing to not only others, but raise the confidence level of the wearer, or so the theory goes.
In the case of my girlfriend’s Pour La Victoire Women’s Aria Slingback Platform Pump, she mentioned that she loved the lines and curves of the shoe due to its high and hidden platform and curved toe point without being too pointy. This matched the shape of her foot as well, and as such, she says it makes her feel sexier and comfortable at the same time. A definite win-win.
So why am I writing about women’s shoes again? The obvious reason is that I love my girlfriend and secondly, I learned something new and fascinating about something that I see every day on the street or on TV. Maybe next time I will learn something new about my kitchen utensils or my wallpaper, but for now, knowing more about women’s shoes, especially that of the Pour La Victoire Women’s Aria Slingback Platform Pump, will be enough for one post today.
